"If you were to construct a model of what the production company of tomorrow will be, it looks a lot like Curious," said Chase, explaining the move. "They're actually doing all the things in advertising that agencies and other production companies are always talking about -- everything from games to digital content to web virals to programming to entertainment to collaborating directly with marketers and clients -- it's all here, in one form or another."

"Signing Steve is a fantastic step forward in our strategy to extend Curious into live action," said Mary Knox, Curious executive producer and head of commercials at the New York-based advertising and entertainment production company. "We're thrilled that he's joined us, because now we can offer our clients high-end live-action narrative and comedy, along with the animation and tabletop for which we're already known."

Chase notes that he's attracted by the diversity of Curious, its roster of capabilities, and its unique positioning in the ad industry right now. "What I like about it is that I will be surrounded by creative people," he said. "The production support is smart and informed, and they have an impressive set of tools. This company is a potent force in terms of creativity and production."

One of the largest production companies in New York, Curious is home to a stage and motion-capture system, as well as an extensive CG department and post facilities. The studio works across all media platforms, from features to TV to online, producing a diverse mix of both original content and work-for-hire.

Chase is a former agency art director who started his directing career in his native Canada before relocating to the U.S. For many years he was a partner in the L.A.-based Reactor Films, which he left in 2007 to join the Go roster. His reel includes high-profile work for Xbox and Coca-Cola for McClaren McCann in Toronto and Aflac from Kaplan Thaler in New York, as well as Accenture, starring Tiger Woods, for Y&R. Chase has directed a long list of celebrities, including Ken Griffey, Jason Giambi, Carl Edwards, Sammy Sosa, and many different Muppets.

Chase's joining Curious follows the recent signing at the company of feature director Shekhar Kapur and documentary and fashion director Douglas Keeve, as well as Swedish gaming and animation company Zoink Animation.
