Director Romanek Exits Wolfman

In a bold move, director Mark Romanek has exited THE WOLFMAN redux just weeks before filming was set to start, leaving Universal in a hairy situation, report the trades. The studio and ONE HOUR PHOTO director came to an impasse over the budget, which the studio demanded come in under $100 million, because of the film's potential R rating.

Complicating the matter more is that any new director taking on the project will be forced to use the script Romanek worked out with a pool of scribes including Andrew Kevin Walker. With all this against the project, the studio still hopes to get the production rolling in March.

Currently, Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt are attached to the project. Scott Stuber, Mary Parent and special effects legend Rick Baker are the producers.

Set in Victorian England, Del Toro plays a man who returns to his ancestral home, where he is attacked by a werewolf and transformed into a creature of the night.
