Digital-Tutors Releases The Artist's Guide to MEL

Autodesk Authorized Publisher Digital-Tutors announced the release of THE ARTIST'S GUIDE TO MEL. This is part of Digital-Tutors expanding library of resources to train digital artists in the use of Maya 8.5. Maya 8.5 is the award-winning 3D program used in animation, effects, modeling and rendering for both feature films and videogames. THE ARTIST'S GUIDE TO MEL contains 4 hours of project-based training, focusing on how to incorporate greater automation in workflow along with flexibility.

"Leaving one's comfort zone is undoubtedly difficult, so we have taken an artist-friendly approach to explaining, teaching, and demonstrating MEL," said Sunder Iyer, director of R&D for Digital-Tutors.

Artists both new to MEL and experienced with it can benefit by learning timesaving scripting techniques, building custom tools, and fashioning custom interfaces. Contents of THE ARTIST'S GUIDE TO MEL include storing scripts and procedures, sourcing and executing, creating if/for loops, building custom marking menus and creating expressions with the expression editor.

"Once artists learn how to extend their skill-sets and incorporate scripting languages such as MEL for automation and flexibility, they can truly focus on creativity and ultimately learning how to more effectively use their craft in any setting," added Iyer.
