Digital Ribbon Signs Partnership for On-Demand Rendering Service

Orlando-based Digital Ribbon has signed a cross-marketing agreement with Maxwell Render, a digital animation firm based in Spain, who will provide use of its digital animation software to Digital Ribbon clients. Both firms will earn commissions on software licensing agreements.

The leading digital animation providers won_t allow the use of third party computers, so our joint venture gives Maxwell Render a huge advantage in the marketplace, Erik Weaver, ceo of Digital Ribbon. We are seeing a transformation from ISP to ASP, to leverage this fact were are developing a new set of products that can consumed purely on demand.

Under the agreement, an independent animator, or animation studio with a film assignment can acquire both animation software and the huge amounts of computer power required at a fraction of the current cost, Weaver said.

What this means is that an independent animator or medium-budget film can have access to big-budget animation and that could mean blockbuster, Weaver said.

Digital Ribbon (www.digitalribbon.com) is one of the worlds leading grassroots suppliers of shared computational resources. Weaver and his colleagues developed proprietary software to enable its networked users to buy, sell or trade computer power during peak or off-peak time periods without making substantial investments in computer hardware and CPU capacity.
