Digital In Quebec At UCLA

* Thursday, May 4, 2000. Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. The UCLA Film and Television Archive will present THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA at "Digital In Quebec," an evening showcasing 13 shorts from an exciting hub of digital artistry. New and recent shorts, including THE SOUND OF THE CARCERI, the Emmy-Award-winning short featuring Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach in computer-generated surroundings and the surreal GECKO, will show at 7:30 pm at UCLA's James Bridges Theater. ATHEROMATOSIS and MALARIA, both medical documentaries, show shimmering images of internal organs, and the BOXER displays a work using cutting-edge motion-capture technology. The evening will conclude with THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA, the magnificent paint-on-glass film. Though the Oscar winner is not digitally produced, it adapts traditional animation techniques for the IMAX screen. Other works screening include LA PRESSE, NO CAN DO, LIFE'S CIRCUS, THE SECRET ADVENTURES OF JULES VERNE, TONY DE PELTRIE, SWEET EXTREME and NUNAYUT. Tickets are available at the theater one hour before show time. General admission is US$6; tickets for students and seniors are $4.
