Digital Domain Goes to Court

Oscar-winning visual effects house Digital Domain finds itself moving from the movie set to the court room as legal proceedings begin the wrongful termination case filed against the company by its former president Christian Bradley "Brad" Call.

VARIETY reports that Call claims the company forced him to fudge financial records as a way to entice new investors. The visual effects firm is countersuing Call alleging the former officer shirked his fiduciary duty by tainted the workforce's opinion of the company and encouraged them to demand more money.

Digital Domain was founded in 1993 by Scott Ross, James Cameron and Stan Winston. The latter two left the company in 1998. In May 2006, Wyndcrest Partners, which includes Michael Bay, bought the firm. The firm prepared an IPO, revealing that it had never turned a profit and has a large outstanding debt to Falcon Partners. CEO Cliff Plumer told VARIETY that the company's financial standing is much different today than when it initially planned to go public.

The 2009 summer tentpoles the company has worked on include TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and G.I.: THE RISE OF COBRA, with 2012 and TR2N coming soon.
