Digital Dimension Wins VFX Emmy for Lost

Digital Dimension described the crash sequence from ABCs LOST (Part 2 of the pilot), which recently earned the 2004-2005 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series. Digital Dimensions work on LOST previously garnered a VES Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program last February.

Digital Dimension contributed 200 vfx shots, with the bulk of the work done in just 18 days of production. Within this tight production schedule, the studio had to take an original plate that involved little more than five rows of jostled passengers shot against greenscreen, and using a toolkit comprising Autodesk 3ds Max for modeling and Eyeons Digital Fusion for compositing, build debris, chairs and the tail extension of the plane through extensive compositing, sky replacement and CG work. Ben Girard served as Digital Dimensions in-house visual effects supervisor.

Although the studio has contributed large-scale effects shots for several TV projects, Digital Dimension primarily handles feature work, with recent credits consisting of Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Monster-In-Law and the Sept. 23 release of IMAXs MAGNIFICENT DESOLATION: WALKING ON THE MOON 3D. Currently in production at the studio is the sci-fi, adventure film ZATHURA and the horror film CHEATING DEATH: FINAL DESTINATION 3.
