Digital Dimension Helps Heat Up Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Vfx studio Digital Dimension recently contributed a series of high-powered visual effects for MR. & MRS. SMITH, creating 26 explosive shots for the smash movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as assassins.

A mountain sequence in the movie's first quarter and the final, suspenseful sequence of the film are among the shots completed by Digital Dimension to heighten the action. The mountain shot involved a sophisticated blend of virtual camera techniques, texture mapping and texture displacement to place CG geography invisibly into a rock-climbing scenario lensed via helicopter. The finale heats up with RPG rocket blasts created and added in 3D.

2D compositing was completed in Eyeon's Digital Fusion for 2D with 3D modeling and animation crafted using Autodesk 3ds Max.

Digital Dimension's credits include: * Visual Effects Supervisor Ben Girard * Visual Effects Exec Producer Jerome Morin* Visual Effects Producer Chris Del Conte* Digital Compositors Daniel Rubin and Ryan Smolarek* Rotoscope and Paint Supervisor Tammy Sutton* Visual Effects Production Manager Marion Spates* Production Coordinator Taryn Kelly* Digital Effects Artists Christian Zurcher and Mitch Gstes.
