DIC Rides Off with New Horseland Deals

DIC Ent. has finalized new international broadcast and home entertainment distribution deals for the new series HORSELAND.

In Europe, DIC has signed broadcast deals with ZDF/KiKa (Germany-speaking Europe), France 5/Teletoon (France), TV2 (Norway), SVT Digital Channel (Sweden), Jetix (Holland), VT4 (Belgium), TG4 (Ireland), S4C (Wales) and Alter TV (Greece). HORSELAND will debut in the Middle East on Spacetoons (pan-regional) and Saran (Turkey), as well as Medcom (Panama) in Central America. Home entertainment deals concluded with Scanbox (Scandinavia), ZDF (German-speaking Europe) and FMG (Dutch-speaking Benelux).

"We were thrilled with the response from international broadcasters when we debuted HORSELAND at MIPCOM, and we are looking forward to closing many more broadcast deals, particularly in Latin America and Asia, at NATPE," comments Leslie Nelson, svp, international sales/md, European operations, DIC. "We have developed this property using DIC's signature 360 degree approach which allows us to generate a tremendous amount of exposure for the brand and reach our target audience via a multitude of key platforms."

Featuring CGI and traditional animation, HORSELAND airs in the U.S. on the CBS branded kids programming block, "KOL's "Secret Slumber Party." The series, which targets girls 6-11 years old, originated from the highly successful, persistent Web community (2.4 million registered accounts),, on which kids can interactively buy, sell, breed and train virtual horses, and compete with themselves and each other. DIC re-launched the Web community to synchronize the interaction between the HORSELAND series and the website, allowing users to interact with the characters and animals from the series. The new site continues to grow, generating 28% growth in 2006 and boasting more than three million player accounts.
