‘Definitive’ Titanic DVDs Set Sail in October

As with THE LORD OF THE RINGS, look for two TITANIC DVD sets when Paramount Home Ent. releases the all-time box office juggernaut in October: a four-disc COLLECTORS EDITION and a two-disc SPECIAL EDITION. No street date or SRP were announced at yesterdays Paramount/Fox joint press conference (the latter will handle international markets). The COLLECTORS EDITION will contain two bonus discs with including nearly an hours worth of deleted scenes that can be accessed through branching while watching the feature or viewed separately. The deleted scenes will also contain optional Cameron intros, and the bonus features will a RASHOMON-style making of doc, along with time-lapse footage of the set and studio construction and new cast and crew interviews, culled from 400 hours of behind-the-scenes footage. Cameron may even enhance the deleted footage with new vfx. Speaking of which, the 97 Oscar winner benefited from such vfx houses as Industrial Light & Magic, Cinesite (Hollywood), Blue Sky, Digital Domain, Matte World Digital, Pixel Envy and Rainmaker Digital Pictures, among others.

The three year process of making TITANIC seemed at times as arduous as the building of the original ship itself, Cameron said. Until recently, I wasnt really ready to dive back into it all and re-live the conflicts, disappointments, tough choices and, ultimately, the films crazy, unexpected success. This special edition is more than just the hour or so of unseen footage were includingwere taking fans on an untold journey, one which could have ended just as disastrously as Titanics maiden voyage, and often seemed as if it would.
