David Vandervoort’s 'Pinched' Lands on iTunes

David Vandervoort’s short film Pinched, produced by Titmouse, Inc., lands on the Apple iTunes marketplace.

Pinched, created, written, animated and directed by David Vandervoort and produced by Titmouse, landed on Apple iTunes this week, attracting a certain amount of notice around the web.

The 2D short film, originally completed in 2009, had over a hundred thousand views online before it was picked up by the iTunes marketplace. The adult-themed story follows a schizophrenic pickpocket who scours the underground trains at the command of his inner demons. But when an accidental score reconnects him with his past, he must test his strength and defy the voices in his head. In the end, the quest for love proves to be the most meaningful of all.

A story artist and 2D animator at Laika, in Portland, Oregon, Vandervoort is a self-taught artist and self-described vagrant who has worked on a range of commercial and television projects at a number of studios in his quest to make animated features. During his stint at Titmouse, Vandervoort served as Animation Director on Disney’s Motorcity, working on Pinched in his spare time. Following that, Vandervoort moved back to his home town, where he provided character design for Laika’s stop-motion feature, ParaNorman. He is currently at work on Laika’s upcoming feature, The Boxtrolls.

Pinched was made using primarily the Adobe Creative Suite; animation and storyboards were created in Flash, with background drawings completed in Photoshop, and compositing in After Effects. Apple Final Cut Pro was employed for the final edit.
