David Rice Named SVP of CBS Interactive Games

Digital media vet to oversee GameSpot, Giant Bomb, GameFAQs and eSports initiatives.

SAN FRANCISCO -- David Rice has been appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of CBS Interactive Games, it was announced today by Jim Lanzone, President of CBS Interactive.

Rice, who started on October 22, will oversee all operations for the company’s games portfolio, including the GameSpot, Giant Bomb and GameFAQs brands; eSports initiatives; and the GameSpot video network, whose partners include Major League Gaming, Twitch TV, Own3d and more. He joins CBS Interactive from Yahoo!, where he served as a vice president responsible for the company's global media properties and platforms, including Yahoo! News, Finance, Sports, Movies, TV, Games and more.

“David is an industry veteran who has consistently worked at the intersection of digital media and next-generation engagement platforms, and we're thrilled to have him lead our strong portfolio of game brands,” Lanzone said. “He brings significant expertise and vision in product strategy, content development and platform innovation that will help us develop new user experiences as we continue to reach new audiences.”

At Yahoo!, Rice oversaw the development of the company's global media properties, platforms and advertiser experiences. In addition to Yahoo!, Rice has held a number of leadership positions at MetaCafe and Microsoft. At Microsoft, Rice led the development of leading communications services Hotmail and MSN Messenger.

A resident of San Francisco, Rice earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics and Japanese from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
