Dark Oz Optioned For Screen Trilogy

Macabre comic series DARK OZ was optioned for film and TV by hip-hop artist Pras Michel (The Fugees) over the weekend, VARIETY reports.

DARK OZ was originally published by Caliber Comics and follows an older Dorothy as she travels through Oz, with many of the same characters from the original Frank L. Baum novel and 1939 film starring Judy Garland.

The screenplay was adapted from the original comic creators Aaron Denenberg, Ralph Griffith and Stuart Kerr; production is slated to begin late 2008.

In addition to producing, Michel will star as the Scarecrow in the first of three live-action films.

Michel has also produced upcoming THE MUTANT CHRONICLES starring John Malkovich and Thomas Jane and 2007 documentary SKID ROW, where he lived as a homeless man in Los Angeles for nine days.
