Daredevil Clings To Top Box Office

DAREDEVIL managed to cling onto its top box office position at theaters in North America for a second weekend (primary vfx by Rhythm & Hues, Pixel Magic and Digital Domain), holding off a challenge from DreamWork's school party film OLD SCHOOL. The Marvel Comics blind superhero flick pulled in an estimated gross of $18.9M, and moved its estimated 10-day cume to a healthy $70.3M. OLD SCHOOL, with some vfx work done by Gray Matter FX, debuted in second place at $17.5M while HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, with visual effects by Pixel Magic, dropped to third place taking in $11.9M and a $64.9M total. Disney's JUNGLE BOOK 2 climbed up a notch to fourth place with $8.6M and $25M total receipts. CHICAGO, with visual effects from Toybox and Film Effects Inc., dropped a notch to fifth place, taking in $8.5M to bring its total to $94.3M. THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE debuted at sixth with $7.1M, while SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, featuring visual effects by Cinesite and Effects Assoc., moved down to seventh place at $6.4M for a total of $44.4M. Warner Bros.' GODS AND GENERALS debuted in eighth place at $4.7M.
