Announcement from Distribution 360:
Toronto, ON – Distribution360 has licensed the format rights for season one of the hit series Splatalot to Dutch public broadcaster TROS on their children’s channel Z@PP. Using most of the original footage from the 26 episode series, Z@PP will be creating their own unique Dutch version by shooting new hosted segments to fit around the existing footage of the castle and the Defenders. Production of the new elements has already begun and the show is due to launch this summer. Popular Dutch TV personalities Ron Boszhard and Viviënne van den Assem have been enlisted to host the show, helping to give it some local flavor.
“Splatalot is a very appealing kids game show for us,” said Jean-Loeck van Kollenburg, Program Buyer, Z@PP. “We are incredibly impressed by the format’s flexibility in facilitating the production of a completely Dutch version of the show.”
“Working with Z@PP and TROS has given us an exciting opportunity to showcase the flexibility we have when working with international production partners,” said Kirsten Hurd, Senior Sales Executive, Distribution 360. “There are a number of ways in which Splatalot can be adapted for the local market, and this partnership demonstrates how a program created in Canada can inspire an entirely unique series. We are thrilled to help Z@PP share Splatalot with kids all over the Netherlands!”
This sale comes hot on the heels of D360’s sale to Disney XD in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Splatalot is a hilarious medieval-themed physical game show geared to the 8-12 year-old audience. The series features a larger-than-life extreme obstacle course with more splats and spills than ever imaginable.
Each episode features a different group of 12 thrill-seeking teen contestants, dubbed Attackers, competing in three hilarious rounds: Cross the Moat, Escape the Stockade and Capture the Crown. The Defenders of Splatalot, an international squad of nine costumed gladiators, do their best to protect the castle from the Attackers—leaving only one in each episode to be crowned King or Queen of Splatalot.
