Cube Director Splices New Sci-Fi Project

Vincenzo Natali, who co-wrote and directed by cult sci-fi film CUBE, is set to helm the long-in-the-works sci-fi picture, SPLICE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Copperheart Ent.'s Steven Hoban is producing with Gaumont's Franck Chorot and Angry Bulls' Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and Susan Montford exec producing.

The film follows two young scientists that become famous by splicing the DNA of different animals together to form new beasts. However, things go horribly wrong when human DNA is worked into the mix. Natali penned the script with Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor.

Prior to this incarnation, Natali tried to make the film as a $20 million animated feature.

The new live-action production is casting and will begin lensing this summer in Toronto.
