Croatian Children’s Animation Program Set for Jan. 8

A screening of recent student works from Croatia’s School of Animated Film is set for January 8, 2014, at the California Film Institute.

In a continuing cultural exchange between Croatia and the California Film Institute, Jasminka Bijelić Ljubić, co-director of the School of Animated Film (ŠAF) in Čakovec, Croatia, accompanies three of her star students, Vedran Horvat, Eva Jalusic and Iva Ruzic (ages 12, 13 and 16), for this screening of recent works from ŠAF.

These world-class animated films by students of ages 8-18 have won numerous international prizes and exhibit deft observation and humor typical of adult animators in Eastern Europe. The films utilize all forms of animation: puppets, clay, cutouts, hand-drawn and computerized.

ŠAF has been teaching young people since 1975 and their work has been featured at the Mill Valley Film Festival’s Children’s FilmFest for several years. This program is approximately 90 minutes.

In Person: Jasminka Ljubic & Student Filmmakers Vedran Horvat, Eva Jalusic and Iva Ruzic.
