Creation Finds Distribution Savior

Jon Amiel's Charles Darwin biopic CREATION has found a savior in Newmarket Films, reports VARIETY.

Jon Amiel's Charles Darwin biopic CREATION has found a savior in Newmarket Films, reports VARIETY. The Toronto Film Festival fav had been scaring off other distributors afraid that the film would draw protests from religious extremists. The film, starring real-life couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, follows the relationship between Darwin and his devout wife upon the release of his seminal work ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES. The indie distributor plans to release the film in December.

John Collee adapted the script from Darwin's great-great grandson Randal Keynes's book ANNIE'S BOX. Recorded Picture Co.'s Jeremy Thomas produced alongside BBC Films and Ocean Pictures. Crazy Horse Effects, Fugitive Studios and Machine provided visual effects work for the period piece.

Ironically, Newmarket's most successful release to date is THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.
