The presentation "Reckless - the world behind the mirror and its app"

Cornelia Funke and Andy Merkin introduce the Mirrorworld app on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 12 o'clock in the Großer Saal Gewerkschaftshaus. The same venue also hosts the "Indie Games" series, taking place the same day, and the "Transmedia Experiences" series the day after. Funke and Merkin are introduced by Transmedia and storytelling expert Christine Weitbrecht. For the very first time, this app provides the users with a visually tangible concept of the world behind the mirror that Funke illustrated with pencil sketches in her book - a world where fairy-tales and myths constitute historical truths. The app was developed by Funke and Mirada Studios (Los Angeles) that were co-founded by Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim). Cornelia Funke plans a total of five Mirrorworld

installments, the first two of which have already been published: Reckless was published in September 2010 in eight countries and has sold 300.000 copies in the German-speaking world alone. The second installment, Reckless - Fearless, was exclusively published in September 2012 in German - further languages and countries follow in April.

Cornelia Funke has repeatedly been rated the most popular author in a ranking among pupils conducted by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association on an annual basis. The "Time" magazine voted her into its list of the 100 most influential people of 2005, stating that she had written her way into the hearts and imaginations of audiences worldwide. She was awarded several honors for her books, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on Ribbon. Funke has written more than 50 books that were published in 37 languages in 43 countries worldwide. The total number of copies published and sold is nearly 9 million in Germany alone. Funke's literary range covers storybooks, first reads, children's books and numerous stories for an adult audience. The fantasy novels Dragon Rider, The Thief Lord, the Inkheart trilogy and Reckless are among her best-known works, as is the realistic youth book series Wild Chicks that revolves around the adventures of a group of young girls.
