Corel Introduces Painter IX Art Pen Brush Pack

Corel announced the Corel Painter IX Art Pen Brush Pack, a collection of new Corel Painter IX brushes that take advantage of the new Wacom 6D Art Pen to provide a heightened level of realism in digital art. Corel is offering the Corel Painter IX Art Pen Brush Pack to customers as a free download from its website at www.corel.com/painter.

The Corel Painter IX Art Pen Brush Pack gives artists unprecedented control over their brush strokes. When used together with the Wacom 6D Art Pen, these brushes not only respond to the x- and y-axes, tilt, bearing and remarkable pressure sensitivity that Corel Painter is known for, but also add the extra dimension of barrel rotation, making the digital painting experience more natural than ever before.

Features include:

* Thin Smooth Calligraphy Brush: This brush gives the user the experience of working with a broad and stiff calligraphy pen that enables them to control the thickness of the stroke as they rotate their hand. Designed to behave like a traditional calligraphy pen, the artist is able to roll the nib of the pen, and can move the stroke through a full 360-degree rotation.

* Grainy Calligraphy Brush: This brush emulates a tapered and springy calligraphy pen that enables the artist to control the thickness of the stroke as they rotate their hand. Designed to behave like a traditional calligraphy pen, rotation and pressure work together to create masterful strokes, and the pen can move through a full 360-degree rotation. This pen provides a grainy effect, allowing the texture of the paper or canvas to come through.

* Soft Flat Oils Brush: This brush replicates the feeling and movement of a traditional flat brush with long soft bristles used with oil paint. The individual bristles on this brush respond to the movement of the painter's hand in an expressive and natural way.

* Square Grainy Pastel Brush: This brush captures the experience of using a square piece of hard pastel. Using this brush, artists can control the stroke thickness and character of their pastel stroke with the movement and rotation of their hand. Pressure changes the opacity and the amount of grain from the paper or canvas that shows through. This brush is capable of 360-degree rotation.

* Tapered Gouache Brush: This brush replicates the feeling and movement of a traditional tapered brush with gouache paint. Individual bristles respond subtly and naturally to the hand's rotation and pressure.

"The long-time relationship between Painter and Wacom has been built on the common desire to push the limits of what's possible in the world of digital art. With the introduction of the 6D Art Pen and our new Brush Pack, we're truly blurring the line between digital and traditional worlds," said Sean Young, product manager for Corel Painter IX. "The relationship between the artist and the brush is very intimate. Every nuance and subtle motion is critical to capturing expression and style. With this new technology, Corel and Wacom have created the most natural and life-like digital-painting experience ever."

"Corel's Art Pen Brush Pack for Painter IX exemplifies Wacom and Corel's joint vision of natural and intuitive digital art tools. A Wacom 6D Art Pen combined with Painter IX's new Brush Pack enables every nuance of an artist's hand movement to be translated to a digital canvas with a variety of tools and media. It's a major step forward and it's simply magnificent," added Scott Rawlings, Wacom vp of marketing.

To experience the realism of these new brushes, customers must be using Corel Painter IX in conjunction with a Wacom Intuos3 tablet or the new Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display and the new Wacom 6D Art Pen.

Available for $69.95, the Wacom 6D Art Pen can be purchased from Wacom at www.wacom.com. In addition, customers who wish to purchase a Wacom Intuos3 and Corel Painter IX should visit www.corel.com/perfectpartner for special bundle pricing.
