ASIFA-Saskatchewans inaugural Animation Film Festival concluded on March 6, 2006 with a flurry of controversy. After four days of screenings, panels and retrospectives, the event awarded its top prizes to feature MADAGASCAR and Michel Estradas short film, CANNED NUTS.

During, the awards ceremony, however, many angered animators rushed the stage accusing the festival director Gordy Jagarsky of conflicts of interests in regards to who filling the jury with his friends and how much influence corporate sponsors had on the competition.

Many of the tensions during the event have been attributed to the 2D-3D feud, which has been brewing ever since the mysterious murders of Los Angeles 3D animator Shane Caput and New York 2D artist Bobby Talls.
