Commercial Colorist Cosola Joins Encore

Responding to growing demand for short-form post-production services in Hollywood, Encore Hollywood has brought on board Mike Cosola, a colorist with broad experience in commercials.

Mike Cosola is one of the industrys most experienced colorists in the commercial market, said Encore HollywoodÊ sales exec Griffin Guess. He helps to strengthen Encores position as a pillar in the commercial market.

Cosola becomes part of a growing team of artists at Encore focused on commercial and music video post-production work. Along with Arnold Ramm and Mark Sachen, others include fire editor Dan Aguilar, compositors John Shirley and Kent Feeler, producer Laurie Ryan and operational personnel Gregg Schaublin and Jeff Tellefson. The groups vfx efforts are led by exec producer/director of visual effects Barbara Marshall. The group also has access to the talents of Encore Hollywoods award-winning computer animation and graphics department to provide complete short form post-production packages under one roof.

Over the past several months, Encore Hollywood has experienced a sharp increase in requests for short form post work as the advertising and music video industries have begun to rebound. Hollywood has a strong core of short-form producers who have been underserved as post providers have migrated to the Westside, said Bob Solomon, president of Ascent Media Creative Services. Encore Hollywood is dedicated to providing those producers with exceptional talent, superior technology and unrivaled service so that they can finish their projects at a convenient location. We are giving producers another option.

Cosola spent the past five years at Sight Effects, Venice, California, where his recent credits included spots for Volvo (MVBMS, New York) and Chrysler (BBDO, Detroit), as well as several spots fore FCB Chicagos GUYS NIGHT OUT campaign for Coors. His most noteworthy efforts include the BMWs digital film series THE HIRE, where he worked with directors John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Won Kar-Wai, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Guy Ritchie. He also colored the Sega spot, APOCALYPSE (FCB, San Francisco), a Clio winner for cinematography, and the Motorola spot, BLACKBIRD (McCann-Erickson, New York), an AICP winner for visual effects, both in 2000.

Citing the strength of Encore Hollywoods short-form team, Cosola called it a great opportunity to further his own career growth. Encore has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve in short-form, he said. They have demonstrated their commitment to the commercial market and to supporting it with the technical and creative resources essential to making it a success.

Cosola began his career with Unitel Video, Hollywood in 1989. He joined 525 Post Production in 1990, where he earned his initial success as a colorist for music videos and commercials. He joined Sight Effects in 1998.Ê
