Comic Series Resurrection Optioned By Universal

Universal Studios has optioned Oni Press comic series RESURRECTION by ELI STONE co-creator Marc Guggenheim, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Universal's Scott Stuber is producing along with Eric Gitter of Closed on Mondays Ent., the producing arm of Oni Press.

The story centers around the aftermath of an alien invasion, in which the human survivors try to take back control of the planet.

Illustrated by Dave Dumeer, the comic was first published in October, with the third issue recently released.

Guggenheim will executive produce the adaptation with Oni Press' Peter Schwerin. Lawrence Grey is overseeing for Universal.

RESURRECTION is the third title Universal has bought from Portland, Oregon-based Oni, one of the larger independent comic and graphic novel publishers.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, starring Michael Cera and directed by Edgar Wright and LEADING MAN are also being made by Universal.

Guggenheim writes for several Marvel comics, including WOLVERINE, and is a writer/producer whose credits include ABC's BROTHERS & SISTERS, CBS' CSI: MIAMI and ABC's ELI STONE. He is working on the big-screen adaptation for Green Lantern with Greg Berlanti and Michael Green (HEROES).
