Comedy Central Orders First Animated Reality Show

Realty show hits Comedy Central in an animated way with the networks order for DRAWN TOGETHER, according to Lauren Corrao, svp, original programming and head of development. Presented as if it were a real primetime reality series, DRAWN TOGETHER answers the question of what happens when eight completely different cartoon characters from various genres and styles live together and have their lives filmed for the entire world to see. Created, written and exec produced by Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser, eight episodes have been ordered and are scheduled to premiere on Comedy Central in October 2004.

"While very much a character driven comedy with a tendency toward melodramatic outbursts, some of the humor in DRAWN TOGETHER will come from the viewers' familiarity with reality television and the show's ability to poke holes in the well-known conventions found in these shows," said Corrao. "What makes the series so compelling is the use of familiar animated icons to inhabit the roles of the housemates and the opportunity to watch these familiar characters from different worlds interact together as they attempt to get along under one roof."

Television's first animated reality series captures the comedic and outrageous daily adventures of eight mismatched cartoon characters using the dramatic storytelling conventions of established reality television shows. The housemates include: "Captain Hero," a not so moral do-gooder reminiscent of the Saturday morning TV superheroes of the 70s; "Clara," a 20-year-old sweet and naive fairytale princess; "Toot," a black-and-white pudgy heartthrob from the 20s; "Foxxy Love," a sexy mystery solving musician; "Spanky Ham," a foul-mouthed internet download pig; "Ling-Ling," an adorable Asian trading card cubby creature; "Wooldoor-Sockbat," a wacky Saturday morning whatchamacallit; and "Xandir," a strong young adventurer, similar to the great videogame warriors.

The series is based on characters developed by Silverstein, Jeser and Jordan Young (THE SIMPSONS). Zoe Friedman is the exec in charge of production for Comedy Central.

Silverstein and Jeser, who previously served as writers on Comedy Central THE MAN SHOW and ACTION and ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE, are represented by UTA, the Firm and Offer Weber Dern.

Comedy Central (www.comedycentral.com), the only all-comedy network, currently is seen in more than 83 million homes in the U.S. Comedy Central is owned by Comedy Partners, a wholly-owned division of MTV Networks.
