Columbia Snatches Spawn Feature Rights

Columbia Pictures has snatched up the feature film rights to the comic book SPAWN. Recently, New Line Cinema, who produced the original live-action feature, let their claim on the rights expire, thus reverting them back to creator Todd McFarlane. Columbia was quick to pounce on the film rights to the popular Imagine comic book series. Already, Don Murphy has signed on to produce the next feature through Sony-based AngryFilms. Currently, McFarlane and screenwriter Steve Niles are working on the first draft of the SPAWN sequel. Murphy is not new to comic book-based features, he recently wrapped production on Fox's FROM HELL feature, based on the Alan Moore graphic novel, and is attached as a producer on the ASTRO BOY film at Columbia.

From comic book creator, to multi-millionaire, Todd McFarlane has always followed his own path with intelligence and daring. J. Paul Peszko meets the man behind Spawn in Animation World Magazine.
