Collateral Damages The Village

DreamWorks' COLLATERAL led the box office for the weekend ended Aug. 8, 2004, with $24.7M in its debut, besting M. Night Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE, down 67.8% in its second week with $16.4M. The horror film (with some vfx by ILM) has collected $85.6M for Disney's Buena Vista so far. Universal's THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (also with vfx by ILM) finished third with $14.3M and $124.6M. Paramount's THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE remake came in fourth with a tally of $10.2M and a moderate cume of $37.9M. Sony/Revolution's romantic comedy, LITTLE BLACK BOOK, debuted in the fifth spot with $7M. Fox's I, ROBOT (with vfx by Digital Domain and Patrick Tatopoulos Design) followed in sixth with $6.5M and $126.9M. Sony's SPIDER-MAN 2 (with vfx from Sony Pictures Imageworks and Radium Inc.) settled for seventh with $5.4M and $354.5M. New Line's hip comedy, HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE, slipped to eighth in its second week with $3.1M and a cume of $12.3M. Warner Bros.' underachieving CATWOMAN (with vfx by ESC and Tippett Studio) managed a ninth place finish with $2.9M and $36M to date. And Warner Bros.'
