Digital animation and vfx house Pendulum Studios has added Colin Hodges as its Director of Performance Technology. Hodges will be directly involved with the studio's 3D animation productions as well as managing its software development team, which includes the ongoing evolution of their award winning facial performance technology, AlterEgo.
Prior to joining Pendulum, Hodges worked as a Sr. Production Specialist/Product Designer with Softimage's Product Management team, playing a key role in the development of Softimage|XSI and Softimage|Face Robot. While with Softimage, he also became a member of their elite Special Projects Strike Force, troubleshooting top tier film, television and game productions with cutting edge solutions.
Prior to this he served as a Senior CG Supervisor at Stan Winston Digital on FANTASTIC FOUR, and led creature development on Disney's EIGHT BELOW, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, and GARFIELD THE MOVIE.
Hodges' career started off in the animation department at PDI/DreamWorks as a Technical Assistant on SHREK and was subsequently offered an apprenticeship in their Character Technical Director Group. That experience fueled his quick advancement to being a CG Lead at DisneyToon Studios where he worked on numerous theatrical and direct-to-video productions. Hodges has formally joined Pendulum in their San Diego offices but will play a critical and evolving role in the studio's Los Angeles operations.
