CN Orders More ‘Steven Universe’ and ‘Uncle Grandpa’

Highly-rated original animated series from Cartoon Network Studios get orders for more episodes.

Cartoon Network announced that it has picked up 13 additional episodes each of Uncle Grandpa and Steven Universe, bringing the total order to 26 episodes for both original half-hour animated series. The two recently launched series originate from Cartoon Network Studios’ thriving and prolific shorts development program which has also produced the Emmy-winning animated series Regular Show

Since its September 2 premiere, Cartoon Network’s original animated series Uncle Grandpa ranked #1 in its time period (8 p.m.) on all television on Monday nights among kids 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.  The series moved to Tuesday nights last week and immediately ranked #1 in its new timeslot (8 p.m.) on Tuesday nights among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, also increasing delivery of kids 2-11 vs. the previous year.

Steven Universe debuted on November 4 as Cartoon Network’s most-watched series premiere of 2013 among kids and boys 6-11 and stood out as the #1 telecast of the week among boys 9-14, #1 telecast of the day among boys 6-11 & 9-14, and #1 in its time period with all kids 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 and boys.

Created by Pete Browngardt, Uncle Grandpa is a show about everyone’s “magical” uncle and grandpa who travels around the world in a mystical RV. His mission is to help people however, wherever, and whenever they need it. Through his child-like and innocent ways, he finds unusual solutions to everyday situations. An eternal optimist, Uncle Grandpa’s glass is always full of something delicious and he’s always ready to greet the day (and everything and everyone) with his signature, “GOOD MORNIN’!”  Uncle Grandpa airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

Steven Universe is about the misadventures of a boy named Steven, the ultimate "little brother" to a team of magical guardians of humanity—the Crystal Gems. Steven may not be as powerful as the Crystal Gems.  Or as savvy.  And he may not have much control over his powers, which originate from the gem in his bellybutton.  But that doesn't stop him from joining Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl on their magical adventures and somehow finding a way to save the day! Steven Universe is created by Emmy® and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time). Ian Jones-Quartey (The Venture Bros., Adventure Time) serves as supervising director. Steven Universe airs as part of Cartoon Network’s powerhouse Monday night comedy line-up at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
