CN Greenlights 2 Toons, Orders More Adventure Time, Flapjack

Press Release from Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network announced greenlights for two new original comedy animated series, REGULAR SHOW and HORRORBOTS, in addition to a picking up more episodes of THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF FLAPJACK and additional writing for ADVENTURE TIME.

REGULAR SHOW is created by J. G. Quintel and was developed as a short for Cartoon Network's Cartoonstitute. Two bored groundskeepers, Mordecai (a six-foot-tall blue jay) and Rigby (a hyperactive raccoon) are best friends who spend their days trying to entertain themselves by any means necessary, much to the displeasure of Benson (their boss, who is a gumball machine) and to the delight of Pops (an older, lollipop-headed gentleman). Their everyday pursuits often lead to things spiraling out of control and into the surreal: they open portals to other dimensions, summon demons via an '80s arcade game and accidentally use choreographed dance moves to send co-workers to the moon. All in a typical day's work on REGULAR SHOW. J.G. Quintel served as creative director of THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF FLAPJACK for two seasons and was a storyboard artist on the Emmy-winning animated series CAMP LAZLO. REGULAR SHOW will be produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, CA.

HORRORBOTS tells the story of Thrasher and Blastus, two outsider teenage droids who are only slightly less horrific than the ultra-powerful robots that populate their planet, Killglobe. Now they face their greatest challenge yet: high school. Armed with a desire to fit in (and little else), Thrasher and Blastus navigate their lives with varying degrees of success. Created by Michael Buckley (THE SISTERS GRIMM) and Joe Deasy and co-executive produced by Christy Karacas (SUPERJAIL), HORRORBOTS will be produced in New York.

Cartoon Network Studios will also be producing additional episodes of THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF FLAPJACK, bringing the total number of half-hour episodes produced to 46. Created by Thurop Van Orman, the comedy series centers on an impressionable young boy, Flapjack, and his two advice-giving best friends: a crusty old pirate called Captain K'nuckles and a wise-talking blue whale, Bubbie, whose mouth they call "home, sweet home." Armed with an overwhelming desire to be known as a true "adventurer," Flapjack will do anything -- and this means anything! -- in his quest to reach a fabled floating island, no matter the number of insurmountable obstacles or overwhelming dangers he might face. THE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF FLAPJACK is produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, CA.

An additional season of scripts has also been commissioned for ADVENTURE TIME, an animated comedy about Finn, the human boy with the awesome hat, and Jake, the wise dog, who are close friends and partners in strange adventures in the land of Ooo. The 30-minute series, from Cartoon Network Studios, is created by Pendleton Ward, executive-produced by Fred Siebert and Derek Drymon and scheduled for a 2010 premiere.
