CMG Sells 'The Legend of Sarila'

CMG announces that they have sold their Canadian 3D Stereoscopic Animated feature “The Legend of Sarila” to Russia’s Luxor, Germany’s Telepool, and Israel’s 5 Star Pictures.

Beverly Hills, CA -- Cinema Management Group (CMG) announced that they have sold their Canadian 3D Stereoscopic Animated feature The Legend of Sarila to Russia’s Luxor, Germany’s Telepool, one of the major Europeans players in the areas of theatrical, DVD, VoD and TV licensing, and Israel’s 5 Star Pictures.  At last spring’s Cannes Market, Luxor purchased CMG’s animated 3D feature Khumba, produced by South Africa’s Triggerfish Studio.  After watching new 3D footage and a new trailer at AFM for The Legend of Sarila, Luxor, Telepool and 5 Star Pictures decided to pick up Sarila. The Legend of Sarila will be delivered in February and released early next year in Canada.

In addition, Bayard Canada will be publishing two books based on The Legend of Sarila. One will be a picture book, while the other will be a novel for young readers.  Both books will hit the shelves in early February, 2013 prior to the theatrical release slated in Canada via Alliance on February 22.  The novels will be published in French, with negotiations underway to release them in French speaking European Markets and English territories around the world.

“We had a great experience working with the team at Luxor on our Khumba deal and they were thrilled with the amazing new 3D footage from The Legend of Sarila. When Luxor, Telepool and 5 Star Pictures heard our marketing campaign for 2013 and saw some of the publishing deals the people at Sarila have put together, they all told us they wanted to be involved with this wonderful family adventure,” said CMG President Edward Noeltner.

In addition to the sale today to Luxor, Telepool and 5 Star, CMG has sold international distribution rights to Front Row Entertainment, for distribution in the Middle East; Associated Euromedia, for distribution in Turkey; Talent Epitome, for distribution in China; and Jonon Source, for distribution in Mongolia.

The Stereoscopic 3D action adventure film follows three young Inuits as they embark on a journey full of adventure, magic, dangerous spirits, all while they try to save their clan from being destroyed by a scheming shaman. The animated film features an all-star cast with Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer (Beginners, The Insider, Up,) international singing sensation Elisapie Isaac and Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight, New Moon, Barney’s Version), Dustin Milligan (Beverly Hills 90210, In the Land of Women, Slither), Tim Rozon (Instant Star, Wild Roses), Natar Ungalaaq (Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner, Glory & Honor), and Academy Award winning actress Genevieve Bujold (Anne of the Thousand Days, The Trotsky).

The Legend of Sarila is directed by Nancy Florence Savard (The Legend of the Christmas Tree, The Christmas Log, The Christmas Stocking Tale, The Kiss under the Mistletoe) of 10th Ave Productions, and produced by both Nancy Florence and CarpeDiem’s production team, consisting of Marie-Claude Beauchamp, Paul Risacher, and Normand Thauvette. The film is written by Pierre Tremblay and Roger Harvey. Eric Lessard (Shrek 1,2,3 &, Madagascar) lends his talents as animation supervisor. Production was completed at Modus FX studios, which has done special effects work on such titles as The Avengers, Mirror Mirror, and Source Code.
