Click Takes the Lead From Cars

Adam Sandler and his magical Universal Remote were enough to lure viewers away from CARS, as CLICK debuted at the top of the box office chart for the weekend ended June 25, 2006. The Sony/Revolution comedy/fantasy with vfx from Sony Pictures Imageworks grabbed $40M vs. $23.2M for the Disney/Pixar animated feature, which has now collected $156.6M in three weeks. Paramounts NACHO LIBRE dipped to third in its second stead with $12.6M and a cume of $53.2M. Universals THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT followed in fourth with $9.8M and a cume of $43.1M (supported by vfx from Hammerhead, Rhythm & Hues, CIS Hollywood, CafeFX, Pacific Title, Illusion Arts, Industrial Light & Magic, Perpetual Motion Picture, Digital Backlot and Hatch FX). Fifth place was reserved for newcomer WAISTDEEP, which garnered $9.4M for Rogue Pictures. Warner Bros. THE LAKE HOUSE settled for sixth with $8.8M and a cume of $29.7M. Universals THE BREAK-UP was a seventh place finisher with $6.5M and a cume of $104.2M. Foxs GARFIELD: A TAIL OF TWO KITTIES (with animation and vfx from Rhythm & Hues and Rainmaker) occupied the eighth spot with $5.2M and a cume of $16.4M. Foxs X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (with vfx from Cinesite, Framestore CFC, MPC and Weta Digital, among others) wound down to finish ninth with $4.8M for a summer-leading cume of $224.5M. Sonys THE DA VINCI CODE (with vfx from Double Negative, Rainmaker Animation & Visual Effects, MPC, The Senate, Brainstorm Digital, Artem and Altered States) was a 10th place finisher with $4M for a cume of $205.5M.
