Week-long slate of mind-expanding international animation, shorts and features includes live episode of ‘Rick and Morty’ with creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, screening of the 4K restoration of the Japanese ‘Belladonna of Sadness,’ and more.

Fans of independent animation in the Los Angeles area are in for a treat! The Cinefamily has announced its week-long slate of mind-expanding international animation, old and new, shorts and features, at Animation Breakdown 2015.

Kicking off Thursday, December 10, the Animation Breakdown Roundup opening night extravaganza will be hosted by Animation Breakdown’s Alex McDonald and Yo Gabba Gabba! animation producer Kevin Sukho Lee, who have curated another assortment of eye-poppin’ awesomeness for ABD’s signature program of animated shorts from around the globe, most of them never before screened in LA. This 2015 edition promises to deliver strange Simpsons tributes, inter-galactic inter-species sexual encounters, body part rebellion, animal love, cartoony crime sprees, and more.

Then, on Friday, December 11, join Rick and Morty creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, along with writer Ryan Ridley, are set to present an improvised episode of Rick and Morty! Armed with a Cintiq tablet, Roiland will accompany the improvised insanity with live drawing to be followed by a Q&A with the creators and special guests Beth and Jerry (Sarah Chalke and Chris Parnell). Wubalubadubdub!

As if that’s not enough, Saturday, December 12 will see a presentation of Disney Television Animation’s latest series of Mickey Mouse shorts mixed with classic 1920s and 1930s-era Mickey Mouse cartoons to demonstrate how the new generation didn’t fall too far from the original tree. The event is moderated by animation historian Jerry Beck and includes a panel of the producers, directors and artists behind this once-in-an-80-year reboot.

There are a slew of other events planned for Animation Breakdown 2015, including a behind-the-scenes look at Nickelodeons newest series, Pig, Goat, Banana, Cricket, a screening of the 4K restoration of the Japanese classic produced by Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka and directed by his longtime collaborator Eiichi Yamamoto, Belladonna of Sadness, a show-and-tell with Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, and much, much more.
