CINAR Corp. has named former WWF Entertainment head Stuart C. Snyder its new president and CEO. Snyder has extensive management experience in video, television, film, animation and live-action entertainment, as well as contacts in the production and distribution communities plus retail and licensing. The CINAR board is counting on Snyder to return the entertainment division to profitability and broaden the range of family products. In a press release, Snyder said, "CINAR is a remarkable family entertainment company climbing back to recovery." In addition to diversifying the company's offerings, he said he plans to enhance the positive performance of CINAR's education division. While president/COO of the WWF, Snyder spurred the company sales to $450M and developed WWF film and TV projects including Universal's THE SCORPION KING and MTV's WWF TOUGH ENOUGH. Snyder has also served as president of USA Home Ent., a division of USA Networks, Inc. He was also president and COO of Feld Ent. and exec. VP/GM of Turner Home Ent. Snyder aggressively expanded product lines at Turner, where he acquired the animated feature film THE SWAN PRINCESS for theatrical and home video. CINAR is an integrated entertainment and education company based in Montreal and is involved in the development, production and worldwide distribution of programming and products for children and families. After many tumultuous years filled with problems and lawsuits related to illegally obtained Canadian tax credits, non-approved investments in offshore accounts and the misappropriation of funds by senior executives, CINAR is managing to close the door on some of its more troubling episodes.
