Chris Palmer, who directed the live-action SIMPSONS opening credits, has been tapped to direct A SPELL FOR CHAMELEON for Warner Bros. Pictures, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Wolfgang Petersen will produce through his Radiant Prods. along side David Benioff.
Based on the first book in Piers Anthonys long-running XANTH novel series, the tale takes place in the land of Xanth where all the people have magical powers. The story follows a young man who is banished for not having powers.
"The HARRY POTTER books are about magic people and Muggles, humans who have no powers and, ironically, the people reading them are Muggles themselves," Palmer said. "So I like this idea of turning that around. I like how (the main character's) lack of magical abilities ends up saving the day."
