Chris Hemsworth to Star in Spielberg's 'Robopocalypse'

Steven Spielberg has his eye on “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth for the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, “Robopocalypse."

Spielberg has spoken, and he wants Chris Hemsworth. According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg has his eye on the Thor star for his upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, Robopocalypse.

The story is based on the Daniel H. Wilson novel about an apocalyptic robot uprising. Spielberg agreed to direct the project prior to the book’s finish, with Wilson handing off pages for adaptation by Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard as they were completed.

No official cast announcements have been made for the action/thriller, which is co-financed by DreamWorks and is scheduled for a worldwide release date of April 25, 2014. Disney will distribute Robopocalypse in the U.S., while Fox will handle overseas distribution.

Hemsworth shot to stardom in Thor in 2011, and has since had standout roles in The Cabin in the Woods and Snow White and The Huntsman, as well as reprising his role as the superhero in this year's The Avengers. Hemsworth is set to play the Marvel character again in the forthcoming Thor: The Dark World, which is scheduled to be released in November 2013.
