Chow Won't Direct Green Hornet, Will Still Play Kato

Stephen Chow has dropped out as director of THE GREEN HORNET over "creative differences," per VARIETY. He will still play Kato, however. Columbia Pictures and producer Neal Mortiz are in the process of finding a new director, hopefully before the end of the year, to keep the film on track to begin production in the spring.

The film was written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, who will star as the masked crime fighter who began life as a character on a radio show in the 1930s. A TV version in the '60s followed, but the inevitable big screen adaptation has taken awhile, with many incarnations. George Clooney was at one point considered for the lead role.

Chow signed on in September to direct and play sidekick Kato, which was originated on TV by Bruce Lee. The finished script is also expected to be complete by the end of the year.
