China to Further Support Its Animation Industry

An official with the Chinese broadcasting regulatory agency told broadcasters and animation producers to expect more domestically produced cartoons to be broadcast and there was support to encourage the play of more animated cartoons during golden broadcasting slots, it was reported by PEOPLE'S DAILY ONLINE.

This came during remarks made by Wang Taihua, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Director-General of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), during the recent National Film, TV and Animated Cartoon Working Meeting held in Hangzhou.

The SARFT plans to expand the broadcasting scale of homemade animated cartoons, vigorously carry out excellent homemade animation programs, step up the enacting of specific policies in 18 aspects such as constructing the homemade animation industrial base and animation teaching and research base, etc., to support the development of domestic animations.

Taihua said the local governments should seriously study and implement various preferential policies granted by central government and local governments to attract capital investment to spur development of homemade animation industry.
