Charles Nelson Reilly Dies at 76

Tony Award winning actor Charles Nelson Reilly has died at the age of 76, reports THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. He passed away on May 25, 2007, in Los Angeles from complications from pneumonia, reported his partner, Patrick Hughes, to the NEW YORK TIMES.

Reilly's work in animation spanned several decades. In 1975-76, he hosted Filmation's kids' series UNCLE CROC'S BLOCK, which featured such animated segments as THE GROOVIE GOOLIES, WACKY AND PACKY, M*U*S*H and FRAIDY CAT.

For Hanna-Barbera, Reilly was the lead voice of Frank Frankenstone in THE FRANKENSTONES from THE FLINTSTONES COMEDY SHOW. Additionally, he lent his voice to the animated THE ADDAMS FAMILY as well as the feature film CHARLOTTE'S WEB. In the '90s, he played King Midas in the HERCULES TV series. For Nickelodeon, he played the Dirty Bubble in two episodes of SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS.

His other feature work included: Killer in ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN (1989), Hunch in ROCK-A-DOODLE (1991), King Llort in A TROLL IN CENTRAL PARK (1994) and Mr. Dumpty in BABES IN TOYLAND (1997).

He reprised his role as Killer in the 1998 direct-to-video, AN ALL DOGS CHRISTMAS CAROL. He also played the role in three episodes of the ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN TV series.

His other television voice work included: the TV special, THE CITY THAT FORGOT ABOUT CHRISTMAS (1974); Mr. Toad in the TV movie, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS (1987); guest work on GOOF TROOP; and the Disembodied Omnipotent Ruler of Cats on SPACECATS.

For the direct-to-video Tom and Jerry feature, SHIVER ME WHISKERS, Reilly voiced Red Parrot Stan.

Reilly is best known for campy TV appearances throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was on the TONIGHT SHOW more than 95 times and was a frequent panelist on game shows like MATCH GAME and HOLLYWOOD SQUARES.
