Universal Pictures has picked up revamped version of THE NUTCRACKER from Jon Gunn and John Mann, reports Variety. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce. Chernin developed the idea with Gunn and Mann.

The Tchaikovsky ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman's short story THE NUTCRACKER AND THE MOUSE KING. On Christmas Eve, a young girl falls asleep and is whisked off to a dream world where toys come to life and the Nutcracker Prince defends her from the Mouse King.

The writing team is penning DreamWorks Animation's BOO U.
