New Line Cinema is talking with HAIRSPRAY director Adam Shankman to helm their new version of THE NUTCRACKER, reports Deadline.com. The studio hopes to have the film ready for holidays 2013.

Darren Lemke (JACK THE GIANT KILLER) penned the script based on E.T.A. Hoffman's book. The story follows a young girl who goes on an adventure with a wooden toy soldier.

Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing. If Shankman boards, he and his Offspring Ent. partner Jennifer Gibgot will also produce.
