Paul W.S. Anderson (RESIDENT EVIL) will direct Constantin Film's POMPEII, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The action-adventure will take a TITANIC approach to the ancient Rome-set Mt. Vesuvius erupt disaster. A slave dreams of buying his freedom and marrying his owner's daughter, but unfortunately she has been promised to a shady senator.

Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler penned the script. Anderson will also produce with his RESIDENT EVIL producers Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer.

The plan is to start production next spring.

Summit Entertainment will distribute in the U.S.

Roman Polanski was previously attached to direct, but had to drop out when the originally funding fell through.
