Disney via Miramax has selected January 21 for the release of Troy Nixey's remake of DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, reports VARIETY. Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins adapted the script based in the 1973 ABC TV movie. Mark Johnson and del Toro produced.

In the story, a young girl (Bailee Madison) goes to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) at the old mansion they are renovating. To her dismay, she frees evil spirits bent on destroying the family.
