Blue Sky and director Chris Wedge have announced their next project — an adaptation of William Joyce's LEAF MEN, reports VARIETY. Fox Animation will fund the project.

But putting this project together wasn't as easy at it seems. Wedge had convinced Fox to allow him to shop the project around to other studios. He went to John Lasseter at Pixar who loved the project. When it seemed that Wedge, Joyce and writer Jim Hart had a deal with Disney/Pixar, Fox didn't want to give up its rights just yet. Now Fox has officially greenlit the project at its studio.

The story follows a bug troop that seeks the aid of the magical Leaf Men in their efforts to save their garden from a spider queen.

Wedge is also developing the live-action film THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET for Warner Bros.
