Timur Bekmambetov (WANTED) is negotiating with Universal to do a remake of Russian sci-fi thriller BLACK LIGHTNING, reports VARIETY. Bekmambetov would produce with Chris Weitz (NEW MOON). The original was directed by Dmitriy Kiselev and Aleksandr Voytinskiy.

Bekmambetov is already at work on a Russian-language sequel, which is described as a cross between TRANSFORMERS and BATMAN. In the film, a car-crazed student tricks out a classic Soviet sedan and winds up getting involved with the criminal underground. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON's Bill Kong is in talks to produce.

Additionally, Bekmambetov is working with Tim Burton and producer Jim Lemley to adapt ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, the sophomore novel from PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES scribe Seth Grahame-Smith.
