20th Century Fox has set June 24, 2011 as the release date for PLANET OF THE APES prequel, RISE OF THE APES, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Weta Digital is creating CG apes for the picture.

Rupert Wyatt (THE ESCAPIST) is helming. Amanda Silver & Rick Jaffa penned the script and will produce alongside Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark.

Set in San Francisco, the film deals with man's genetic experiments on apes, which lead to a new bread of talking apes.
