CG Pinky & Perky Goes Into Development

Lupus Films and Picture Production Co. (PPC) has started development on PINKY & PERKY, a new CGI series. The plot of the series will center on two Laurel & Hardy-liked brothers who are the hottest trotters in town. They have to overcome their differences once they are given their own live childrens TV show full of mad games, wild cartoons, gunge tanks and top celebrity guests.

The series will consist of 52x11 shows for children 6-11. The show is aimed at a core audience of 7 and 8 year olds who have been brought up on live-action formats like POP IDOL and FAME ACADEMY, and who are savvy enough to see the humor in the world of celebrity and showbiz.

Pinky and Perky first came to the worlds attention as singing piglet puppets in the 1960s. Pinky and Perky had their own TV show, which ran from 1957 to the early 1970s on British television. Pinky and Perky performed cover versions of many pop songs of the day, and at the height of their fame received almost as much fan mail as the Beatles.

Following broadcast, the secondary stage will include merchandising sales, computer games, mobile phone content, a dedicated website and DVD/Video sales.

To produce the project, Lupus Films and PPC have formed a new venture Pinky & Perky Enterprises (PPE). Their presentation at Cartoon Forum is being backed by distributor Celador International, and other European partners Final Cut (Greece) and Amhain Video Services (Ireland).

Ruth Fielding, joint managing director of Lupus films says, Weve really enjoyed helping shape this classic kids TV brand into something future proof and child relatable. Were looking forward to supporting the project at Cartoon Forum in Denmark, and we are confident that it will generate a lot of interest.

Steve OPray, md of PPC added, It has been a real joy to bring Pinky and Perky into the 21st Century, and we are really looking forward to showing everyone at Cartoon Forum how fantastic it will be.

Ray Merritt is the director, bringing 15 years experience in effects and animation for film and television to the project. His past work includes worldwide TV campaigns for Budweiser, Omega, Sky and countless trailers for feature films.

Scripts for the new series have been written by BAFTA award-winning Alan Gilbey who has created content for major animation studios on both sides of the Atlantic including Aardman Animations, the Disney Channel and Fox. Most recently he has written animated sketches for the popular BBC sketch show, DEAD RINGERS, and also acted as development consultant on Aardman Animations FLOWERHEADS.

Lupus Films is a U.K. based production company set up at the beginning of 2002 by Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding. Prior to this Deakin and Fielding worked at Channel 4 as the Arts and Animation commissioning team. For more information, visit www.lupusfilms.net.
