Cast Away Sails Atop The Int. Box Office Once Again

CAST AWAY continues to sail atop the international box office, with VERTICAL LIMIT making a climb upward. In Germany, CAST AWAY maintained its #1 finish with a gross of US$5.74 million, escalating its cume to $12.74 million. In second, BEDAZZLED bounced in $1.2 million in its German debut. UNBREAKABLE crash-landed in third with a gross of $954,843, pushing its German cume to $11.95 million. In seventh, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON collected $561,558, raising its German cume to $1.25 million. POKEMON 2000 grabbed another $420,338, lifting its German cume to $6.65 million. Finishing off the German top ten, URBAN LEGEND: FINAL CUT slashed in an additional $342,835, advancing its cume to $2.94 million. In the U.K., CAST AWAY fended off the premiere of VERTICAL LIMIT to reclaim the top spot, grossing $3.66 million, thus growing its cume to $10.94 million. VERTICAL LIMIT settled for second with an opening ticket-take of $3.66 million. In fourth, UNBREAKABLE rescued another $1.58 million, pushing its U.K. cume to $14.31 million. In fifth, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, now the highest grossing foreign language film in U.K. history, added $1.48 million to its $4.54 million cume. 102 DALMATIANS was spotted in sixth, with a gross of $742,982, increasing its U.K. cume to $11.91 million. In eighth, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS pilfered an additional $279,176, advancing its U.K. cume to $21.31 million. In Italy, CAST AWAY took first place for a second week, grossing $3.77 million, thereby raising its cume to $7.52 million. In second, 102 DALMATIANS collared $1.82 million in its Italian premiere. WHAT LIES BENEATH sunk in another $760,943, floating its Italian cume to $10.28 million. In fifth, LOST SOULS found $754,075, bringing its Italian cume to $1.47 million. UNBREAKABLE dropped 54% to finish in eighth, with a gross of $597,960, growing its Italian cume to $9.23 million. Closing out the Italian top ten, RED PLANET added $238,582 to its two-week cume of $608,631. In Australia, CAST AWAY clocked in a $2.68 million debut at #1. In third, THE 6TH DAY's premiere faired not as well with a gross of $750,223. In fifth, 102 DALMATIANS barked up $489,040, bringing its Australian cume to $5.23 million. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS slew $371,655 in its Australian premiere at #7. In eighth, CHICKEN RUN flew in with a gross of $309,178, pushing its Australian total to $8.49 million. At #9, VERTICAL LIMIT landed an additional $249,522, snowballing its Australian cume to $7.54 million. Finishing off the Australian top ten, THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE added $167,685 to its $527,677 cume. In France, CAST AWAY could only muster a second place debut, grossing $2.55 million. UNBREAKABLE tumbled to third, growing its $15.43 million French cume by $1.39 million. In its sixth week in France, CHICKEN RUN took the sixth spot with a gross of $787,420, pushing its cume to $13.34 million. In seventh, LOST SOULS possessed $331,344, moving its French cume to $877,828. DINOSAUR stomped into ninth place, grossing $265,580, thus lifting its French cume to $25.88 million. Closing out the French top ten, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS added $202,384 to its $3.45 million cume. In Sweden, CAST AWAY sunk to second with a ticket-take of $597,120, elevating its cume to $1.32 million. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON hovered in fourth, grossing $172,764 and climbing its Swedish cume to $586,152. In Mexico, VERTICAL LIMIT premiered in first with a ticket-take of $3.18 million. In third, CHICKEN RUN rocketed in another $731,619, flying its Mexican cume to $4.51 million. THE 6TH DAY cloned $385,463 in fifth, advancing its Mexican cume to $3.91 million. At #6, 102 DALMATIANS leashed $338,794, increasing its Mexican cume to $4.57 million. DINOSAUR roared into fourth with another $418,183, jumping its Japanese cume to $7.73 million. In fifth, WHAT LIES BENEATH unearthed $379,934, elevating its Japanese cume to $4.27 million. THE 6TH DAY duplicated $377,293 in sixth place, raising its Japanese cume to $4.16 million. In ninth, RED PLANET added $195,764 to its $366,623 million Japanese cume. In South Africa, VERTICAL LIMIT finished in second behind live-action laugher MEET THE PARENTS by grossing $253,594, thereby elevating its cume to $720,522. In fourth, CHARLIE'S ANGELS kicked in another $65,987, lifting its South African cume to $1.8 million. SCARY MOVIE laughed in $59,304 at #5, pushing its South African cume to $917,854. In seventh, 102 DALMATIANS nibbled $57,560, growing its South African cume to $513,065. In a lackluster South African debut in eighth, LOST SOULS located $45,670. In ninth, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON had a sturdy premiere on nine screen taking home $37,905. Closing out the top ten, LITTLE NICKY added $37,522 to its $299,008 South African cume. In Hong Kong, VERTICAL LIMIT filled the third spot in its premiere with a ticket-take of $758,016. The debut of 102 DALMATIANS scored $279,287 in fourth. POCKET MONSTERS REVELATION (i.e. POKEMON 2) made its Hong Kong nod in sixth with a gross of $173,000. At #8, CAST AWAY had a weak premiere, only grossing $109,671. In Spain however, UNBREAKABLE held off CAST AWAY's debut to remain #1, grossing $2.52 million and escalating its cume to $5.54 million. CAST AWAY finished in second with a gross of $1.73 million. In third, BEDAZZLED made its Spanish premiere with a ticket-take of $1.22 million. WHAT LIES BENEATH sunk in another $364,458 at #6, lifting its nine-week Spanish cume to $12.65 million.
