Press Release from Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network announced today that rocker Andrew W.K. will host the new heavy duty destruction and demolition competition show DESTROY BUILD DESTROY. Andrew W.K., popular musician, television star and motivational performer, will moderate the mayhem between two teams as they take charge of demolition and construction. DESTROY BUILD DESTROY will premiere this summer as part of Cartoon Network's new block of alternative live-action series.
"Andrew W.K. is the perfect host for the high energy that DESTROY BUILD DESTROY brings to Cartoon Network. He embodies the fun, creativity and action that this show is about," says Rob Swartz, vice president of original series for Cartoon Network.
In DESTROY BUILD DESTROY, teams with the guidance and assistance of professionals, will use wrecking balls, human destroyers and real explosions to destroy something, rebuild it into something different and then destroy it again. Each week new teams face new challenges to build from the debris, with strategy, wits and teamwork determining which team's creation out-performs the other-and whose hard work goes up in smoke.
"I've never seen a television show like this one, and I get to be in the center of it all as host, coach, cheerleader and ring-leader," said Andrew W.K. "DESTROY BUILD DESTROY incorporates imagination, competition and teamwork for a truly ground-breaking TV show. This is as good as it gets for a performer like me."
Andrew W.K. exploded onto the music scene with the release of his 2001 album I GET WET. Best known for his adventurous stage shows and die-hard performance attitude, Andrew W.K. has proven himself a talent and sustaining force in the music world. He has released three albums in the U.S., assisted on countless albums by other artists, authored a book, started his own record label (Skyscraper Music Maker) and opened a successful NYC music and dance venue, among other music-related achievements.
