The San Francisco Independent Film Festival (aka SF IndieFest) seeks
feature length film and video and short animation films for its second
annual festival to take place December 9-12, 1999. All films in the
festival will compete for the Audience Awards for best feature and best

The British Academy of Film and Television Art's (BAFTA) Interactive
Entertainment Awards are open to entries from all parts of the world on all

The International EMMA Awards are prestigious European-based interactive
media awards. In 1999, there will again be an online announcement of
nominations and winners. In the months following the announcement, another
series of winners' celebration events will be organized to coincide with a
number of new media related events such as Invision in San Francisco and
Milia in Cannes. Categories include: Business, Entertainment, General
Interest, Technology, Education, Games, Interactive, and Digital City.

Affiliated with the World Science Fiction Convention, the North American
Science Fiction Convention which takes place in Anaheim, California, August
26 - 29, 1999, is held whenever the WSFC is outside of North America (as it
is this year in Australia). The convention includes hundreds of authors,
artists, and filmmakers as speakers; an art show; a dealers room; films;

The Third Annual MadCat International Women's Film Festival will feature independent and experimental works by women from around the world. MadCat will be featured on Tuesday evenings in September, 1999 at El Rio Outdoor Cinema, a seasonal screening venue in San Francisco. MadCat is seeking innovative and challenging works by women. The September edition of HOLLYWOOD SHORTS, a monthly short film series, will select ten animated shorts that will be screened at THE GIG on September 12, 1999 in Los Angeles, California. Shorts must be no longer than 30 minutes. A special edition of HOLLYWOOD SHORTS will be broadcast via the internet covering the Los Angeles fest. The deadline is July 31, 1999.

The Moondance International Film Festival will be held in Park City, Utah, during the Sundance Film Festival in January 2000, and is open to all women screenwriters and film-makers from any country. All finalists and semi-finalists will have their work read in a public staged reading or viewed at The Moondance International Film Festival. Awards will be given for best original screenplay, best independent feature film, and best documentary, animation or short film. The entry deadline has been extended to September 1, 1999.

The London Effects & Animation Festival (LEAF) is part of Digital Media World, a creative technology event. Celebrating its 17th year, Florida's oldest film and video festival
continues its commitment to encourage, support, and foster independent filmmaking. The festival will tour throughout Central Florida and include such cities as Orlando, Melbourne, Gainesville, and Tampa. The festival accepts film and video shorts and features in all formats, genres, and categories (including animation, documentary, experimental, narrative, music videos, and features). Nickelodeon's Worldwide Development Group, an international team of
Nickelodeon creative and development executives, is launching Nickelodeon's
first global animation storyboard competition. The competition is open to
animators around the world. Six winners will be given the opportunity to
produce a one to three minute animated short based on their winning
storyboard and have it air on Nickelodeon channels around the world.

Each year, Annie Award trophies are awarded for the year's best feature
film, video, television program, commercial, and animated interactive
production, as well as individual achievement by artists, writers and voice
talent. The most prestigious awards given at the annual award ceremonies
are the June Foray award, presented for special service to the artform, and
the Winsor McCay award for a lifetime of achievement in animation. The 27th

D.FILM and The New Venue in association with Atom Films and Evan's Star
Wars Cinema present a new online Star Wars-inspired filmmaking contest. To
enter, send in a short script for a Star Wars spoof. Short means very short
- a story that can be told in two minutes or less. A panel of celebrity
judges (headed by a prominent member of the original Trilogy cast) will
review the scripts. At the end of April, the judges will select a script,
and hand it over to a team of innovative digital filmmakers, including

The Chicago International Children's Film Festival is now accepting entires
for the 16th annual Festival, October 14-24, 1999. The CICFF is the largest
competitive festival of children's films and videos in North America,

Film Roman/Level 13 Entertainment and the prestigious Rico Gallery are holding the first ever Film Roman Fine Arts Competition.
