Walt Disney’s Hometown Toonfest will celebrate the life of the legendary animator. BEETLE BAILEY cartoonist Mort Walker, FOXTROT cartoonist Bill Amend and THE DUPLEX cartoonists Glenn and Gary McCoy will show their work and tell how they do it during a free program beginning at 1:00 pm at The Uptown Theatre, 104 North Main Street. The Toonfest will celebrate Walt Disney’s boyhood (1906-11) in this little rural town, its influence on his animated cartoons and lifework, and the presence and accomplishments of visiting cartoonists from across America who will gather here in his honor. The 2nd Annual International Toonfest Cartoon Exhibit sponsored by the National Cartoonists Society North Central Chapter can be viewed at the Masonic Hall where cartoonists will meet and talk with visitors. There will be a parade beginning at 10:00 am Saturday on Main Street that passes by twice. A Walt Disney life story exhibit of writings, photos and drawings will be at the Walt Disney Museum. Professional cartoonists nationwide are invited to submit original cartoons for the Toonfest exhibit by September 8. Send your work to Toonfest, 207 North Main Street USA, Marceline, Missouri 64658. Cartoons are insured at the exhibit. Toonfest will pay return postage.
